I rewatched 84 Charing Cross Road yesterday (*weep*), and my friends Keris and Anne-Marie both agreed that the film and book are lovely. Keris also INSISTED that Anne-Marie and I need to read Helene Hanff’s other books, so I’m going to start after Christmas. (They seem like ideal post-Christmas cosy reading).

Here’s the order I’m planning on:

Underfoot in Showbusiness

Apple of My Eye

Q’s Legacy

Letter from New York

84 Charing Cross Road/Duchess of Bloomsbury Street (again)

Then a recent biography:

Helene Hanff: A Life by Stephen R. Pastore

Other half-formed reading dreams for 2012 involve some of Joan Didion’s vintage non-fic, Dawn Powell’s diaries, and maybe Slaughterhouse Five for next year’s traditional pre-Christmas harrowing read. (Yeah, it’s a thing.) But that saying about making God laugh by telling ?him plans seems to go double for reading, so we’ll see.

What are you going to read next year (do you think)?
